Oxford MD is one of the oldest towns in the state of Maryland, and one of the oldest in the entire USA. Oxford officially marks the year 1683 as its official founding when is was named by the Maryland General Assembly as a seaport. However, Oxford MD actually began between 1666 and 1668 when 30 acres were laid out as the town by William Stephens, Jr. and by 1669 one of the first Oxford homes was built for the Innkeeper Francis Armstrong.
